About The Varietal
Susumaniello is a relatively obscure red-wine grape originating from Puglia, southern Italy. Its cultivation is almost exclusive to the Salice Salento area, with only a few vineyards around Brindisi. It stands among the world's rarest wine grapes. Classic red Susumaniello wines are characterized by a deep ruby hue and aromas of red berries and plums. In richer, more concentrated examples, you may find spicy, peppery aromas and flavors of dark chocolate.
